Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders

Hyunsoo Yoo, PhD

  • Assistant Professor

Dr. Yoo joined the CSD faculty in August 2019 as an Assistant Professor. Prior to coming to Baylor, she completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Texas at El Paso (2017–2019).

Her research examines language and cognitive recovery in adults with neurogenic communication disorders. She focuses on story retelling as an intervention to support improved communication abilities, investigates how artificial intelligence can be applied to aphasia assessment and language analysis, and explores processing speed as a critical mechanism in language recovery. Together, these lines of work aim to clarify how linguistic complexity, cognitive demands, and therapeutic engagement shape recovery, with the long-term goal of developing evidence-based and scalable interventions that improve the quality of life for individuals with aphasia and related conditions.

Areas of Research Interest

  • Neurogenic language disordered population
  • Subsequent changes in cognitive and language behaviors (Processing Speed)
  • Stroke survivors with/without aphasia
