Alison Prahl, PhD, CCC-SLP
Assistant Professor

Alison Prahl is an Assistant Professor in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department. She received her MS in Speech-Language Pathology from Texas Christian University and her PhD in Hearing and Speech Sciences from Vanderbilt University. Dr. Prahl is also a certified speech-language pathologist and has worked with children with various communication disorders in the public school setting.
Dr. Prahl directs the Language Impairment and Down Syndrome (LIDS) Lab which focuses primarily on language and literacy development in (a) children with primary language impairment and (b) children and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (e.g., Down syndrome). In her research, Dr. Prahl aims to increase the fields understanding of language and literacy profiles and improving language and literacy outcomes for these clinical populations. Her research has been supported by the National Institute of Health and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation. In her teaching and research mentoring, Dr. Prahl encourages students to be change agents that continue moving the field of speech-language pathology forward by becoming confident, collaborative problem-solvers who integrate their clinical expertise to adapt to a variety of client needs.
