Joseph Hin Yan Lam, PhD

Dr. Joseph Hin Yan Lam is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Baylor University. Joseph earned his PhD in Education and BSc in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Hong Kong. He is a registered speech-language therapist in Hong Kong. Before pursuing doctoral training, he worked as a school-based speech-language pathologist. 

His research focuses on bilingual language development, developmental language disorder, and culturally responsive practice for multilingual children. His work examines how multiple sources of evidence can be integrated to improve the identification of developmental language disorder in bilingual children. He also applies predictive modeling, longitudinal methods, and person-centered approaches to understand individual differences in multilingual children’s language development. Through this work, he aims to advance equitable, evidence-based practices that support multilingual children, families, and clinicians.
