Research for Course Credit
Interested in learning about research in CSD for course credits?
CSD majors are encouraged to seek out opportunities to participate in research to enhance their education. This may take the form of becoming a Research Assistant, developing an Honors thesis project and working with a mentor to accomplish your goals, or participating in one of the CSD variable number research courses.
What are CSD variable number research courses?
The CSD variable number research courses are available beginning your first year at Baylor University. This requires the student to meet with a research mentor and discuss the opportunities available. A good place to begin finding a research position is to read the recent articles or posters published by the lab group or to review the CSD faculty mentor profiles (see below). Make an appointment to discuss your interest in research and be ready to explain why you would be a good addition to the lab team.
How do I enroll in a research course?
In order to enroll in one of these research courses, students must complete the Enrollment Application form and have their faculty mentor sign the document. The contract will need to be emailed to Samantha_dvorak@baylor.edu as well as the student’s academic advisor. The academic advisor will enter the appropriate overrides and will notify the student that they may enroll in the course.
What are the course options?
CSD 1V9R | A course that may involve shadowing upper-level research students, lab training or orientation, reading scientific literature, or other entry level activities. |
CSD 2V9R | A continuation of 1V9Rs for 1st and 2nd year students. |
CSD 3V9R | A project involving new and novel research in which the student has input in experimental design and procedure. |
CSD 4V9R | The continuation of the 3V9R project in which the student will formally present or publish their work. |
CSD variable number research courses are able to fulfill CSD Restricted Elective course requirements.
